Point cloud as the basis for a BIM model

Scan-to-BIM: From Laser Scan to As-Built BIM Model

From the surveyed building to an agreed digital building model – scope, model content and accuracy requirements are defined per project.

We capture buildings or plants by 3D laser scanning and model an as-built BIM model as Revit (RVT) or IFC – as the basis for design, retrofits and facility management.

Do you have a specific requirement?Tell us what you need – we will get back to you within 24 hours and advise you in detail on possible solutions and suitable methods.

RVT · IFC · STP

BIM model in Revit or IFC, 3D solids as STEP (STP) or IGES (IGS).

LOD

Level of detail and model content are defined per project.

24h

We offer fast communication & turnaround times.

E57 · DWG

Point cloud and 2D plans available on request.

3D laser scan of a hall for Scan-to-BIM

Process: capture → point cloud → model

  • Scoping: model scope, level of detail (LOD), coordinate system and target software
  • Capture: on-site 3D laser scanning – see 3D building surveying and plant surveying
  • Point cloud: registration and quality check of the scan data
  • Modelling: building the BIM model from the point cloud
  • Check & handover: model vs. point cloud check, delivery as RVT/IFC or STP/IGS

Point cloud, CAD or BIM – what do you need?

Point cloud

Millions of measured points as E57/RCP – an exact record of the existing state, but without element information.

2D/3D CAD

Plans (DWG) or 3D solids as STEP (STP) or IGES (IGS) – ideal for engineering and conventional design.

BIM model

Intelligent elements such as walls, slabs, openings or plant components with properties – as RVT or IFC.

We model buildings and industrial plants separately, according to their specific requirements. Scope, level of detail and coordinate system are agreed with you before the project starts.

Frequently asked questions

If our FAQ does not answer your question, simply send us an inquiry, an e-mail or give us a call – we are happy to help.

How much does Scan-to-BIM cost?

The cost depends on building size, level of detail (LOD) and model content. Once the scope is clear, you receive a quote based on the project scope.

Which formats do you deliver the model in?

As a native Revit model (RVT) or in the open IFC format, or as 3D solids in STEP (STP) or IGES (IGS). The point cloud (E57/RCP) and 2D plans (DWG) can be delivered in addition.

What level of detail is possible?

We define the level of detail (LOD) and the elements to be modelled per project – depending on what the model will be used for, such as design, retrofits or facility management.

How is sensitive data handled?

We treat our customers' data as strictly confidential – all data is hosted locally on our own backed-up systems (not in the cloud).

For data transfer, just tell us the method you prefer (e.g. your company's own cloud solution).

We are of course happy to sign an NDA if you wish.
