Frequently asked questions

If our FAQ does not answer your question, simply send us an inquiry, an e-mail or give us a call – we are happy to help.

How does our reverse engineering process work?

Our reverse engineering service turns an existing physical object back into a digital CAD file – for example a machine, a tool or a component for which drawings no longer exist. We capture it precisely with a 3D scan and use the data to reconstruct an editable CAD model.

In which format will I receive the results?

Depending on your requirements, you receive:

CAD files: STEP, IGES, Parasolid and many more

Raw scan data: STL, OBJ

Comparison reports (optional) to check the scan against the CAD model

How much does reverse engineering cost at Scankraft?

Prices depend on the complexity and size of the object and the level of detail required. As a guide:

Smaller components from approx. €690

Complex assemblies or design parts on request

We offer flat rates for series orders and fair package prices – simply ask for a no-obligation quote.

Does the object have to be sent to Scankraft, or can it be done on site?

Not necessarily. If it can be shipped, that's great. If the object is too large, too heavy or too sensitive, we come to you with our mobile 3D scanning equipment.

Do you also offer raw scan data without CAD?

Yes! If you would like to do the modelling yourself, we supply clean STL data – perfectly prepared and aligned. CAD reconstruction is optional.

How is sensitive data handled?

We treat our customers' data as strictly confidential – all data is hosted locally on our own backed-up systems (not in the cloud).

For data transfer, just tell us the method you prefer (e.g. your company's own cloud solution).

We are of course happy to sign an NDA if you wish.
